@ the movies

There certainly seems to be a plethora of new movies out at the moment that have been created based on books; many of them very popular titles. There are four in particular that have received a lot of attention.

48 Shades is based on the novel 48 shades of brown by Nick Earls. About a boy in year 12 who moves in with his young, groovy aunt for the year when his parents move to Geneva. This is a great coming of age movie by a fantastic Australian author. There have also been rave reviews for the all Australian sound track to this movie.

Stormbreaker is based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Horowitz. The first title in the Alex Rider series, this is set to be an exciting film.

An inconvenient truth is the documentary film based on the book by Al Gore. Both the book and the movie have received much critical acclaim. It looks at the issue of global warming and our impact on the Earth. One reviewer did comment that the audience must stay until after the credits.

The new Macbeth film is a contemporary take on the classic Shakespearean play. Another Australian film, this one is set in Melbourne and centers around the criminal underworld. This is by all accounts quite a confronting film and is strictly for mature audiences.

If you have seen one of these movies, or another one based on a book, post a review here for everyone to check out.

Happy viewing!

I certainly lovs movies as normally some young kids in my age do.. but the bad thing is that i don't normally hav a lot of spare times to watch them all. So i will go to my comment on these movies. 48shades. 48 shades, i never watched that movie because i don't normally like that kind of movie, how ever the story plots of the movie sounds familiar to the novel i read last year. im not sure what the books called but i think it might be the same book as the novel 48shades.
Stormbreaker. A lot of m'classmates have read the stormbreaker series and i guess they all enjoyed it a lot, because they all said that it was good book and very entertaining. However i never read the stormbreaker series due to i had already borrowed other books and had to finish them. i guess the movie will be fantastic.
An inconvenient truth. i actually hav interest in the world's environment and global worming. i haven't watch the movie yet but if i get to watch it, i am exactly 97.8998644522635444371211353% sure that i will enjoy that movie.
Macbeth. I love adventure and action movies. i hav read the Macbeth original novel by William Shakespear and i enjoyed it a lot. i guess remaking the story po\lot by changing the time line or time setting will make it something very interesting film to shock the film industry.

The movies are often used as another medium do display books or stories. The problem with this is that detail is usually cut out to make the movie an acceptable length. For example, Tom and Jesse said that stormbreaker lost some of the detail in the movie compared to the book. Philip Harford

P.S: What does Plethora mean?

Hi Philip,

Thanks for your insightful response.

Plethora means an over-abundance of something; in this instance I was commenting on the fact that a lot of the movies that are out at them moment are based on books, rather than being original works.

I love movies such as lord of the rings but i hated the harry potter series and books. It is not the fact that it is turned into the move that spoils it, it's the story line of the book.

Most books that are turned into movies end up in the back shed of video easy.

Is it just a coincidence that most Book/Movies that are succesfull a.k.a (Harry Potter) i hate with a passion or am i just a strange little twisted boy.

I think that this is all true but for a reason. it would be nearly impossible to fit all that info martion into 1 movie without it being ridiculously long.

what i am saying is that most movie/books suck :P

As a kid I have always enjoyed movies, but from past experiences I have noticed that some movies that are made from the storyline of books, disappoint me. This is normally the case when I have read the book first, and then seen the movie. One of the major reasons for this, is that a book has so much detail that it is extremely hard to place all of the detail into a movie. This often results in the movie missing out on key elements of the book.

Stormbreaker, which was a book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading, really lacked a lot of detail in the movie. This was so much the case that it even changed many parts of the movie, making them a lot different to the book.

The Harry Potter Series also lacked a lot of detail in their movies, but this was quite excusable for the length of all the books in the series.

On the other hand I found both the Lord of the Rings Series and the Da Vinci Code excellent movies, and though they did lack a lot of detail from the books, they managed to cover all the key elements.

Overall, I still enjoy watching a lot of the movies that were from books, and all of the books that I have mentioned above were all very good movies. But you cannot compare the book to the movie, as the books will always have much more detail.

I really enjoy movies that have been created from books. The one that i most enjoyed was the Lord of the Rings Triology. Sometimes they can leave some important detail, but it's still interesting to see how other people interpret the story. Normally after i see the movie, i like to go read the book to see the difference between the two.

~movies are nice too watch, and its good if the movie is based on a book and you've read the book before. or if you wanna watch the movie because you cant be bothered to read the book.

in my opinion stormbreaker was a bit overated but the rest of the movies sounded interesting. and i wouldnt think that one person would like all the movies because the movies are for different people. and different people like different movies.

also, i think that Most books that are turned into movies arent really cared about and some people might want to make some quick money by making a movie which is whack but based on an awsome book. as a result people watch a sloppy movie when they wanted to see their awsome book turned into an awsome movie.

some of the movies are good some are bad i guess it depends how much you love the book.

I like movies that are based on books as if i have read one I get the picture of what the characters really look like and sound like, this makes it more realistic to me. My favourite movie in the list would be stormbreaker, because i like adventure and action movies.

I think that the movies are at some times a bit to weird but some parts of the the lord of the rings trilogy is exiting. I think they changed a bit in the movie from the book so that it would surprise some people.

Movies are great. They are a hobbie, entertainment or just a good night out. One problem with movies is that it dosen't always explain the storlyine from the book. For example Stormbreaker leaves out soem detail from the book which left a bit of a hole in the story.

Stormbreaker is one of the best english films that i have seen this year and the book is very exciting. Althought the movie was some what different to the book because some major scenes were missed, other effects that were used made the film complete.

In the holidays i saw the new movie 'Stormbreaker' and i did not think to much of the movie, mainly because they missed out on the best parts and got other parts completely wrong, for example they missed out on the quad bike chase, the submarine unloading and the storm breaker in the book was not a virtual reality simulator sort of thing, alex dosent meet sabina pleasure until skeleton key, there isnt a back up device if something goes wrong, and plus the guy the plays alex looks like hes about 16 or 17 where as he is supposed to be 14. over all i dont reccoment the movie to anyone who has read the books.
